Mairéad Hurley has 15 years experience in scientific research, education, and public engagement with science.

Mairéad is an Assistant Professor in Science Education at the School of Education, Trinity College Dublin. Her research interests lie at the intersection of science education, communication and public engagement, with a particular focus on non-formal learning environments that connect the STEM disciplines with the arts. She was the Principal Investigator of the European Commission-funded project SySTEM 2020 which examined science learning outside the classroom in 19 countries across Europe (2018-2021). She holds a PhD in astronomy and has experience as a teacher of secondary school science and mathematics.
