Welcome to University of Galway
Cead Mile Failte (Welcome)
University of Galway would like to warmly welcome all our new international students. We are delighted to have you join our university community and we work hard to ensure the experience is everything you hoped it would be.
Orientation details for your cohort can be found below. We strongly recommend that you attend these sessions as you will be given important information on all the supports and activities available to you such as Clubs, Societies, Library & IT, Health services, Immigration registration, Active Consent and much more.
It is also a great opportunity to meet all the other new students from around the world, have some fun and get your hands on some spot prizes!
Academic orientation details for your cohort can be found below:
Postgraduate
Orientation will take place on Thursday 31st August in the Bailey Allen Hall at 9:00 am. We strongly recommend that you attend this session as you will be given important information on all the supports and activities available to you such as Clubs, Societies, Library & IT, Health services, Immigration registration, Active Consent and much more.
It is also a great opportunity to meet all the other new students from around the world, have some fun and get your hands on some spot prizes!
Visiting Students/Erasmus
Support services orientation will take place on Thursday 31st August 2023 at 9:00 am in the Bailey Allen hall.
On Friday 1st September 2023 the Academic Advisory sessions for all visiting students will take place in the Bailey Allen hall. Visiting US/exchange students will receive their student IDs on this day.
Undergraduate (EU CAO)
Orientation activities take place during the week commencing 11th September. On-campus orientation will take place on the 15th and 16th September.
You will learn about your chosen course, meet University of Galway students and staff, explore our riverside campus, and discover the supports and opportunities available to you as a University of Galway student.
On Monday 18th September students are welcome to join the international office team at the university chapel for an official meet and greet.
Students are also welcome to join orientation events happening on 31st August at 9:00 am in the Bailey Allen Hall.

Undergraduate (from beyond the EU)
Orientation activities take place during the week commencing 11th September. On-campus orientation will take place on the 15th and 16th September.

- Arriba Night - Thursday 31st August
- Speed Friending - 5pm Friday 1st September
- Karaoke Night - 8.30pm Friday 1st September
- Scavenger Hunt - Saturday 2nd September
- Diamond Hill Hike - Sunday 3rd September
- Fáilte Mornings - free tea, coffee and snacks from 10:00 to 11:00 am in the Corrib Room in SULT from Monday 4th to Thursday 7th September. A chance to meet other students and staff from the International Office.

Campus Tours
New University of Galway students – book a complimentary tour of our beautiful campus!
Student ambassadors will take you on a 50-minute walk around the campus, showing you key buildings and services and sharing their experiences of student life at University of Galway. It’s a great chance to explore your new surroundings and meet with other students.
Tours will run on weekdays at 11:00 am and 14:00 pm from Tuesday 29 August to Friday 08 September.
