CREST

The CREST feasibility trial seeks to build a comprehensive resilience building intervention for people with dementia and carers living in the community. This project was funded by the Health Research Board (HRB) in 2015 and the end date is October 2020.

MARIO

The MARIO project focuses on the use of companion robots to reduce loneliness and isolation in older people with dementia.
The MARIO project brings together a consortium of partners from academic institutions and industry across Europe, led by the School of Nursing and Midwifery at NUI Galway. The project is funded by the European Union Horizon 2020 – Framework for Research and Innovation (2014 – 2020).

VERA Study

Exploring  the impact of an education interventionk to promote person-centred communication between student nurses and older people with dementia. Funded by the NMPDU (2019). 

Therapeutic lying and approaches to dementia care in Ireland

This study explored the use of therapeutic lying as in the context of caring for and working with people with dementia. Therapeutic lying is an alternative approach to truth telling and/or correcting the person with dementia when to do so would distress and harm them. The research was led by the School of Nursing and Midwifery at NUI Galway and commissioned by the Institute of Public Health in Ireland (IPH).

PRINCE

This study evaluated the effectiveness of a structured education pulmonary rehabilitation programme on the quality of life of people with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). This was one of the largest RCT trials in this field at the time and involved 350 participants and 32 GP practices. This study was funded by the Health Research Board (HRB) in 2012.

DARES

DARES (DementiA Education Programme Incorporating REminiscence Therapy for Staff) evaluated the effectiveness of a structured educationalreminiscence programme for people with dementia residing in long-stay care units in Ireland.This study was funded by the Health Research Board (HRB) in 2012.

DAFNE

The DAFNE study was a randomised trial evaluating the effectiveness of the Dose Adjustment for Normal Eating (DAFNE) programme for people with Type 1 Diabetes in Ireland. This study was funded by the Health Research Board (HRB) in 2006.
