Biography

Áine graduated from the University of Limerick with a BA in European Studies and subsequently obtained the Higher Diploma in Education (Second-level teaching) and Master of Arts, German (Research) from the National University of Ireland, Galway.  She was awarded the Doctorate in Education from the University of Sheffield (2015). She holds the RELSA Certificate in Teaching English as a Second Language and An Ceard Teastas Gaeilge, Béal agus Scríobh.  Áine was awarded a post-graduate scholarship from the ÖAD to undertake M.A. study on the writings of Ingeborg Bachmann at the Karl Franzen University, Graz, Austria.  Before joining NUI Galway as a University Teacher she held academic teaching posts in University College Dublin, with the Open University in Ireland and with the Galway, Mayo Institute of Technology.  She was also employed as an English language teacher in Germany and at a second-level Waldorf/ Steiner school and at a German High School (Gymnasium) and has worked as a second-level teacher in Ireland.  She has worked with a number of German companies in the private sector which included the posts of translator and training coordinator.

Teaching Interests

Áine co-ordinates the European Pedagogies course on the Children Studies B.A. Connect programme and also co-ordinates the MA Advanced Language Skills for German.  She teaches on the Children Studies programme, MA German programmes, undergraduate BA German as well as on the undergraduate Law and Commerce courses.
