Biography

Kristin lectures in Intercultural Communication, Public Speaking and English as a Foreign Language.

Kristin  started teaching in the Shannon College of Hotel Management in 2002.  Since 2005, she has been head of the English as a Foreign Language Department.  During this time, she has designed and written programmes such as the Certificate in English Language Studies (Level 5) and the International Foundation Business Programme (Level 6), including the development and management of two English language programmes delivered in China.  
 
 
Kristin holds a BA in Communication (Radio/TV/Film) from Marist College, New York; an MA in English Language Teaching from the University of Limerick; and is currently writing up her PhD in Applied Linguistics at Mary Immaculate College, Limerick. Her research is investigating the use of metadiscourse in student academic presentations. Her other research interests include: corpus linguistics, spoken discourse analysis, media language and intercultural communication.

She has previously worked in publishing in the production, sales and support of academic books. 

Kristin was the Shannon Project Leader for the Cambridge, Limerick and Shannon (CLAS) Corpus, a one million word corpus of business and hospitality language which is part of the English Profile project.   

Kristin took over as the Project Leader for the ExS project, a web-based application to assist students in the development of their executive functioning skills.
