Centre for Microsimulation & Policy Analysis
About Us
The Centre for Microsimulation and Policy Analysis (CeMPA) at the University of Galway brings together interdisciplinary expertise in microsimulation modelling and policy analysis to examine the potential impacts of economic, social and public policy scenarios at the individual and population level.
Building on the University’s Policy Lab, established in 2016, CeMPA brings together researchers working across Economics, Social Policy, Spatial Analysis, Natural Resources and International Development. The Centre uses a range of quantitative methods, including microsimulation modelling, GIS, input-output modelling, and statistical survey analysis, to address complex policy questions and support evidence-based decision-making.
CeMPA has a strong focus on research, collaboration and policy impact, working with academic, government and research partners on projects addressing major economic and social challenges. The Centre also contributes to the development and application of microsimulation tools and models, including work connected to EUROMOD and international microsimulation initiatives.
Through its research, seminars, partnerships and development of modelling expertise, CeMPA aims to strengthen the use of advanced analytical methods in policy development and contribute to a leading international community of microsimulation research.
The team regularly bids for government research money to build and conduct analysis to support policy development. The Lab has been successful in raising over €2m for various projects during that period.
