Biography

I joined Shannon College of Hotel Management in November 2004 as an English language lecturer. I am very interested in promoting language engagement outside the classroom. I set-up a Self-Access Multilingual Multimedia Centre, lunchtime beginner language classes for students and staff, a foreign film club and a Facebook page 'Languages at SCHM'. In 2015 I was selected as a European Language Label (ELL) Language Ambassador.

Through teaching EAP and supervising final year  projects, I have developed an interest in academic writing and I was part of a cohort which set-up academic writing workshops in the college.

Over the last few years my position has evolved and I now also teach Intercultural Communication and Business Skills Development. In September 2020 I started a new role as Postgraduate Programme Leader and it's a position which has further developed my communication and interpersonal skills.

Research Interests

I am interested in student motivation at third level, academic writing skills, and the role of culture in language acquisition.
