Michelle O’Donnell
Michelle is undertaking her PhD studies on global scaling under the supervision of Prof Esther Tippmann and Dr Sinéad Monaghan.
Michelle’s research explores the negative byproducts of irresponsible global scaling from a local external stakeholder perspective.
This study will investigate the influence, or pushbacks, of local institutional environments on globally scaling firm internationalisation processes and decision-making when the firm is deemed to be illegitimate and carries the liability of disruption within an international market.
She believes that looking into the global scaling phenomenon through a more critical lens, from an external perspective, and utilizing a social construct will allow scaling research to better understand the foreign direct investment choices, internationalisation processes, general decision making adopted by global scalers when they are rejected by a host market.
Her research aims to make contributions to the fields of international business, international business policy, and international business ethics.
Michelle’s research project is funded by the Hardiman PhD Scholarship.
