This interdisciplinary research group engages in the critical analysis of childhood and youth across different contexts and discourses.

Our work is articulated into three main strands:

  • Power, agency, and voice in/of childhood, children and youth
  • Social, cultural and educational perspectives on child and youth health and wellbeing;
  • Constructions, representations, and experiences in/of childhood and adolescence.

Within these three strands, our research addresses constructions of child and youth health, development, and wellbeing (both present and through history); children and young people’s visibility, representation, and agency in society and across a variety of media.

Our work in these areas draws from a diverse range of disciplines – from sociology to anthropology, from literary criticism to health humanities – and is supported by national and international funding.
