Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission Project

Project Coordinator: Dr Eilionóir Flynn

Principal Investigators: Dr Jenni Kline & Dr Meredith Raley

This project for the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission (IHREC), studies the issue of creating a disability focused monitoring mechanism in Ireland. Ireland is a party to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), which requires, among other steps, a body to be set up a mechanism independent of government to monitor government progress on the implementation of the CRPD. This research project hopes to provide IHREC with more information on best practices for the monitoring mechanism and how those practices could best be applied in Ireland. The project looks at both the domestic and international sides of this issues, studying other states to find best practices, and studying the civil society landscape in Ireland to help determine which practices will work best here.
