Title Research Placement 2

10 ECTS

Module description

Students may have an opportunity to visit an academic or research group outside University of Galway to gain more extensive research experience. Examples of such research experience include but are not limited to training in an advanced technique, extended access to specialised equipment/resources or for appropriate field work. Such opportunities are limited and are only possible when arranged by the student’s supervisor and agreed with the host organisation and supervisor. It is recommended that a supervisor in the external host organisation is involved in planning the specific research learning outcomes for the student along with the student’s University of Galway supervisor. These research-specific learning outcomes must be appropriate to the period of the research placement. The research experience must be described in a written report and in an oral presentation in the host organisation and/or a University of Galway audience on their return (within two months). The minimum placement period is two months.

Learning outcomes

  1. Demonstrate new knowledge and/or skills.
  2. Exchange new knowledge and/or skills between the external research environment and University of Galway.
  3. Write a comprehensive report describing their achievements during this placement.
  4. Present orally the research findings/training completed to an audience in the host organisation and/or a local audience.
