“Inflammation and immune regulation in arteriogenesis” Prof Paul Quax
Prof Quax is currently appointed as professor in Experimental Vascular Medicine at the department of Vascular Surgery of the Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC), in Leiden , the Netherlands. He has studied Biology in the University of Nijmegen and did his PhD at the University of Leiden, on the plasminogen activation system, extracellular proteolysis and cancer, graduated in 1991. Since then he worked at the Gaubius Labarotory of the TNO research organization, where he headed the department of Vascular and Metabolic Diseases from 2005 until 2009. Since 2009 he is appointed as full professor at the LUMC where he is heading the research group on vascular remodelling. He is an Established Investigator of the Netherlands Heart Foundation. His research interest is on vascular biology, especially on those processes that occur during vascular remodelling. Vascular remodelling may either be pathological vascular remodelling during atherosclerosis or restenosis processes, or favourable remodelling during neovascularization processes. He has expertise is on assessing vascular remodelling in preclinical models and his current research focusses on the role of inflammatory and immune modulatory processes involved in vascular remodelling, the development of new therapeutic approaches and the translational aspects of experimental vascular medicine research.
