NBCRI University of Galway Partnership Launch

University of Galway and National Breast Cancer Research Institute (NBCRI), together with Galway University Foundation, are delighted to announce the extension of their long-standing partnership. This renewed commitment includes a philanthropic investment of approximately €4M from NBCRI to support life-changing advancements in breast cancer patient care and outcomes. The extended partnership will be formally launched by the Minister for Health, Jennifer Carroll MacNeill, in the Lambe Institute at 11am, Thursday May 15th, 2025.

NBCRI is a national charity that funds a comprehensive research programme at the University of Galway. The charity has been instrumental in advancing the development of the breast screening and symptomatic clinics at University Hospital Galway and the development of the Lambe Institute for Translational Research at University of Galway, where critical breast cancer research is conducted.

Building on a long-standing relationship, this new philanthropic commitment from the NBCRI reaffirms our joint commitment to a research informed approach to improving patient outcomes and will support critical academic and clinical research posts, expand clinical trials and open up much needed PhD scholarships.

In addition, the partnership will be supporting the Cancer Biobank at University of Galway, which houses an enormous collection of clinical samples that are vital for researchers investigating how breast cancer develops, is diagnosed, and treated, all with the goal of achieving earlier diagnosis and the best possible outcomes for patients.
