Dr Una FitzGerald directs and lectures on the MSc in Biomedical Science (via distance learning). Una graduated from NUI Galway with a BE in Industrial Engineering and an MSc in Biotechnology.

Dr Mary Ní Fhlathartaigh

Dr Maébh Coleman
Maébh is a Lecturer in Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Edinburgh Napier University and previously worked with NUI Galway’s Ignite TTO to manage the Accelerating Campus Entrepreneurship (ACE) Initiative which was a three-year collaborative project between DKiT, ITB, ITS, CIT and NUI Galway. She has worked in consulting and education for several years in many leading Irish institutes.

Dr Yury Rochev
Dr. Yury Rochev obtained an honours Master of Science degree in Physics (1984) at Moscow State University, Biophysical Department, Russia. In 1990 he was awarded a Doctorate in Biophysics from the Institute of Biological Physics, the Soviet academy of Science, at Pushchino (Moscow region).

Dr Manus Biggs
Dr Biggs is a Science Foundation Ireland Investigator and lecturer within the department of Biomedical Engineering at NUI Galway. He received a Ph.D in cell engineering from the University of Glasagow in 2009 through research into nanotopographical modification of orthopedic implants. This was proceeded by postdoctoral experience at Columbia University, New York, where he worked on the nanofabriaction of cell platforms for probing T-cell and stem cell processes.

Dr Ted Vaughan
Dr. Vaughan was recruited to the Discipline of Biomedical Engineering in September 2015. He was awarded a PhD in Mechanical Engineering in 2011 by the University of Limerick and holds a First Class Honours degree in Mechanical Engineering, also from the University of Limerick. Following his PhD, he spent four years working as a postdoctoral researcher in the Centre for Biomechanics Research at NUI Galway on a European Research Council funded grant examining aspects of bone mechanobiology.

Kathryn Cormican is a lecturer in the College of Engineering & Informatics at NUI Galway. Her research interests lies in the areas of enterprise integration and technology innovation. Kathryn leads a number of European Union and industry funded research projects in this area.

Dr Brendan Wilkins
Brendan received his BSc (Hons) in Biochemistry from NUI Galway. He completed his Ph.D. in Cell Biology at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas, USA where his dissertation research was on proteins that interact with sperm during fertilization. After completing a postdoctoral fellowship in medical education, he returned to Ireland.

Dr Jill McMahon
Jill received her BSc (Hons) in Biochemistry from Queen’s University Belfast after which she trained as a Medical Laboratory Scientist specialising in histopathology and cytopathology and completed her professional histology examinations in 1989.

Prof Corrado Santocanale
Corrado received his PhD in Cellular and Molecular Biology at the University of Milan, Italy. His early work focused on the characterisation of enzymes required for the duplication of the DNA in the yeast S. cerevisiae.

Dr Linda Howard
After gaining her PhD from the Medical Research Council, Linda worked for three years as a postdoctoral researcher, at the Lombardi Cancer Center, Georgetown University, Washington DC, USA. She then became a postdoctoral research fellow at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Research Center, New York, where she worked on cloning, characterisation and function of cell surface proteolytic enzymes.
