We are excited to announce that the School of Education at NUI Galway will host Professor Kalwant Bhopal (Director, Centre for Research in Race & Education (CRRE), University of Birmingham) on Thursday, April 30th 2020 at 3pm.  Venue TBC (NUI Galway).

Her lecture is titled:
BME Experiences in Higher Education: Policy making, Social Justice and White Privilege

Abstract: This lecture will examine recent statistics on the representation of BME staff and students in higher education and explore how processes of racism, exclusion and marginalisation continue to disadvantage BME groups.  It will use empirical research which explores BME academic flight from higher education to suggest ways forward for the inclusion of BME focusing on issues of equity and social justice.  The lecture will discuss how white privilege works to disadvantage those from BME backgrounds and will explore how universities can develop good practice for the inclusion of BME groups in higher education.
