Dr Liam Carr, Prof Frances Fahy and Prof Ulf Strohmayer led the 2025 BSc in Social Sciences second year residential fieldtrip to Barcelona this April. The undergraduate students fully engaged in the 5 day long fieldtrip and undertook a range of activities spanning a number of key themes including:
- Social and Cultural Geographies - representations of the city, tourist consumption of spaces, narrated landscapes
- Communities, Politics, Identity - community establishment and maintenance, political art Environmental Social Studies - sustainable development, green and open space in the city, sustainability in the city (e.g. parks, transport etc), food and consumption spaces
- Creative and Economic themes - foreign investment and indigenous developments in the high technology sectors of Barcelona’s economy, urban markets
- Urban Planning themes including urban mobility; urban regeneration and gentrification.
