Anna Hildur Hildibrandsdóttir, a PhD student in Geography, has been invited to speak at the upcoming Turas na mBan conference, hosted by Mayo North East, taking place on Friday 8th and Saturday 9th May 2026. This two-day event celebrates the journeys and contributions of women across history and society.

Her talk, titled “Female Entrepreneuring through Irish–Icelandic Landscapes,” draws on historical narrative and her PhD research on the role of creative entrepreneurs in rural areas. Inspired by the stories of Melkorka and Auður Djúpúðga from the Laxdæla saga, she explores how these women’s journeys between Ireland and Iceland continue to shape cultural identity, particularly in Dalabyggð in West Iceland, her PhD case study site. Her work is further informed by her research experience at the University of Galway, Ireland, where she is developing a comparable contemporary Irish case study.

Anna Hildur’s presentation aligns closely with the conference’s theme, offering a unique perspective on movement, place, and the enduring influence of Irish saga characters across landscapes and generations in Iceland. [Further Info & Link to tickets]
