Infrastructure & Community Resilience (ICR) is a research initiative dedicated to advancing knowledge and solutions that strengthen the resilience, accessibility, and sustainability of infrastructure systems and the communities they support. Our work explores the complex relationships between infrastructure, mobility, and society, with a particular focus on how infrastructure systems influence the resilience and wellbeing of rural, regional, and vulnerable communities.

ICR brings together a interdisciplinary research team including academics, postdoctoral researchers, and postgraduate students working collaboratively across engineering, planning, and social science disciplines, with expertise across critical infrastructure resilience, transport and mobility, rural accessibility and decision support systems. Our research addresses key challenges facing communities and infrastructure networks, including climate and environmental risks, regional inequalities in access to services, and the need for more resilient and inclusive infrastructure planning. By integrating engineering, planning, and social perspectives, the platform aims to support infrastructure systems that are robust, adaptable, and responsive to community needs.

Through collaborative research projects, partnerships with academic colleagues, policymakers, public authorities and stakeholders, and engagement with local communities, ICR contributes to the development of evidence-based strategies for infrastructure resilience and inclusive development, ensuring resilient, connected, and equitable communities both in Ireland and internationally.
