Overview

We run a translational research programme combining medical devices, Advanced  Medical Imaging including dedicated research CAT scan and Catheterization laboratory. Our research includes AI and clinical data analytics and Clinical trials both multicentre, academic-driven and first in human industrial trials. Our core aim is to move from concept to clinical validation, to patient care.

Galway is a global Medtech hub, and our AI Medtech research programme is distinguished from others in that it has a dedicated state of the art CT Research scanner and Cath lab embedded within the University Hospital and University of Galway. This results in an ecosystem which combines expertise with innovation. The Discipline of AI Medtech provides an exceptional platform for innovating new medical devices and conducting clinical trials including first-in-human.

In addition to translational research, the discipline spearheads medical device innovation through flagship programmes like Bio Innovate Ireland. This programme has led to a significant number of exciting new start-ups that is contributing to the creation of a dynamic medical device ecosystem in Ireland.
