Is Ollamh Bunaithe le Sean- agus Meán-Ghaeilge agus Teangeolaíocht Cheilteach í Máirín Ní Dhonnchadha.  Fuair sí a hoideachas Tríú Leibhéil in Ollscoil na hÉireann, Corcaigh (áit ar ghnóthaigh sí céim BA sa Léann Ceilteach, MA sa tSean-Ghaeilge, agus PhD sa tSean-Ghaeilge), Jesus College, Oxford, agus Scoil an Léinn Cheiltigh in Institiúid Ard-Léinn Bhaile Átha Cliath.  Sular tháinig sí go Gaillimh, bhí seal caite aici mar eagarthóir cúnta ar Fhoclóir na Nua-Ghaeilge in Acadamh Ríoga na hÉireann, seal mar léachtóir le Nua-Ghaeilge in Ollscoil na hÉireann, Baile Átha Cliath, agus seal mar ollamh cúnta i Scoil an Léinn Cheiltigh san Institiúid Ard-Léinn.

Máirín Ní Dhonnchadha is Established Professor of Old and Middle Irish and Celtic Philology (Sean- agus Meán-Ghaeilge agus Teangeolaíocht Cheilteach) at NUI Galway.  She was educated at University College, Cork (BA in Celtic Studies, MA in Old and Middle Irish, PhD in Old and Middle Irish), Jesus College, Oxford, and the School of Celtic Studies of the Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies (DIAS).  Before coming to NUI Galway in 1996 she had been an Assistant Editor at the Royal Irish Academy's Foclóir na Nua-Ghaeilge, a lecturer in Modern Irish at University College, Dublin and Trinity College, Dublin, and an Assistant Professor at the School of Celtic Studies, DIAS.
At NUI Galway she has served as a member of the Governing Authority, and as Dean of the Faculty of Celtic Studies.

She has published widely on many aspects of medieval and modern Gaelic language and literature, and is keen to mediate Gaelic tradition to a broad audience. 

She is Director of Postgraduate Studies in Old and Middle Irish and Celtic Studies, and would welcome enquiries from prospective MA and PhD students in these areas.

Editing and close reading of medieval and early modern Gaelic prose and verse texts.  Study of Gaelic literary tradition in the pre-modern period, including issues of genre, gender, hybridisation, patronage and provenance.  Medieval to Modern Gaelic language and lexicography.  Aspects of early Irish history.

Máirín Ní Dhonnchadha welcomes enquiries regarding the MA in Old and Middle Irish, the MLitt/PhD in Old and Middle Irish, and the MLitt/PhD in Celtic Studies.
