The CKI have enjoyed a positive start to 2017 building on some of their main achievements in 2016. These included; the completion of the Irish Pilot of the Carnegie Foundation’s Community Engagement Classification in partnership with the University of Massachusetts and the Merrimack College Boston. The development of the new online portal StudentVolunteer.ie was another significant achievement, which was nominated as finalists in the 2016 THINKTECH Awards for Social Innovation. 2017 promises to be another exciting year with the recent publication of Campus Engage’s report ‘Engaged Research – Society and Higher Education, Addressing Grand Societal Changes Together’, showing an advancing trajectory for community engaged work within higher education. The CKI are proud to have recently published their third volume of the CKI Magazine which showcases a range of civic engagement happening across disciplines in NUI Galway. It is hoped that this will inform and inspire colleagues across the community of NUI Galway to enhance and support work of this nature. With two upcoming international conferences on service learning and civic engagement, the CKI are looking forward to promote NUI Galway’s dedication and innovation to community engagement on an international platform.
