An Open Day to Say Goodbye
For 50 years, the James Hardiman Library has been at the heart of campus life. It has welcomed tens of thousands of students, researchers and staff through its doors. As we look ahead to the new Dr Karen Guinee Library, due to open in 2027, we invite you to join us for a family friendly event on Saturday 25th July 2026 from 11am – 3pm to celebrate - everything the James Hardiman Library has meant to so many of you.
As part of our celebrations, we’re inviting you to share the stories that made it so much more than just a building.
We’d love to hear your memories — the late-night study sessions, the friendships and romances that blossomed over shared notes, the stressful deadlines, the eureka moment, the laughter, the procrastination, and the unforgettable moments in between.
Whether your memory is heartfelt, funny or chaotic we want to hear it. Help us honour the library and the role it has played in university life over the years by sharing your story with us!
We will showcase these memories as part of a digital display at the event.

Tá Leabharlann Shéamais Uí Argadáin i gcroílár shaol an champais le leathchéad bliain. Tháinig na mílte agus na mílte mac léinn, taighdeoirí agus comhaltaí foirne trína doirse. Agus muid ag súil le hoscailt Leabharlann nua an Dr Karen Guinee in 2027, tugaimid cuireadh daoibh a bheith inár gcuideachta ag imeacht don teaghlach ar fad Dé Sathairn, an 25 Iúil 2026 ón 11am go 3pm chun ceiliúradh a dhéanamh ar a thábhachtaí a bhí Leabharlann Shéamais Uí Argadáin don mhéid sin agaibh.
Mar chuid den cheiliúradh, táimid ag tabhairt cuireadh daoibh na scéalta leabharlainne sin a fhanfaidh libh go deo a roinnt linn.
Ba bhreá linn dá roinnfeadh sibh bhur gcuimhní cinn linn — na seisiúin staidéir a mhair go dtí amach san oíche, an cairdeas agus na caidrimh ar tháinig bláthú orthu nuair a bhí nótaí lámhscríofa á mbabhtáil, na spriocanna diana, na nóiméid inspioráide, an gáire, an mhoilleadóireacht agus gach eachtra eile a mhairfeas i do chuimhne.
Cibé ar ón gcroí a thagann an chuimhne seo, nó le teann grinn nó áiféise, is mian linn iad ar fad a chloisteáil. Cabhraigh linn ómós a thabhairt don leabharlann agus don ról a bhí aici i saol na hollscoile i gcaitheamh na mblianta trí do scéal a roinnt linn!
