The Discipline has a strong international reputation for work in the areas of the Philosophy of Science, Environmental Ethics, Philosophy of Technology and Metaphysics including historical, methodological and ethical issues to do with big data, AI and robotics, metaphysical questions concerning causation and essentialism, the phenomenology of nature, ecofeminism and ecomodernism. We combine systematic and historical work on these topics with particular emphasis on the work of Kant, Nietzsche and Heidegger. These research areas contribute to UN Sustainable Development Goal 13, Combating Climate Change and to the College SRA 4 (Human and Environmental Health). For examples of this work, see the following profiles: Tsarina Doyle, Heike Felzmann, Felix Ó Murchadha, Nick Tosh, Nora Ward.
