Overview

The module provides a broad introduction to the study of the geology of gemstones with hands-on experience with laboratory–based techniques to look and identify rocks and rough gemstones. This module is designed to supply students with an introduction to the basic principles of Geology; The Dynamic Earth; The Rock Cycle; and teaching them about Rock, Crystal and Mineral Kingdoms. It will help students understand the theory behind gemstone formations as it is designed to expand theoretical knowledge of geological processes and the formation of gem materials.

Entry Requirements

Applicants must be over 21 year of age.  This micro-credential is suitable as an introductory course for people with general interest in gemstones, as well as those working in the jewellery and related trades. The course is open to everyone and is designed for those with no previous training in gemmology.
