Aurora Alumni Network

The University of Galway’s Aurora Alumni Network was launched in November 2023, and as of 2026 over 100 Aurorans from across the University have joined.

The purpose of the network is to help University of Galway Aurorans maintain their connection with their programme cohorts and to broaden their network with other women who have completed Aurora. The aim is to create a supportive and inspiring community that continues to empower members to achieve their personal and professional goals, enhancing the role of women in leadership within the University.

Each year, Network Members will be invited to continue their leadership journey through focused events and opportunities. They will be invited to support each new Aurora cohort, and to contribute to key gender equality initiatives within the University.

If you have completed the Aurora programme, either within the University or before you joined, please contact OVPEDI@universityofgalway.ie to register your interest.

Key Network Activities

Leadership Masterclasses

Network members will be invited to join Leadership Masterclasses each semester. These Masterclass events will support continued professional development in the areas of leadership and management. Network members are invited to suggest topics for masterclasses each year.

Networking Opportunities

To build and develop a strong network, opportunities for engagement and learning will be held each year. Network members will be invited to join a holiday networking session, and a session during International Women's Week each year.

Aurora Alumni Action Learning Triads

As a continuation of the action learning developed through the Aurora programme, network members are encouraged to engage in further "peer coaching". Network members will be invited annually to express interest in being a part of an Action Learning Triad.

The Action Learning Triads are a collaborative process where network members support each other’s professional and personal development. The process emphasizes mutual learning, problem-solving, and growth through guided conversations and constructive feedback.

Action learning can serve as a safe space for staff to openly discuss their experiences, challenges, and achievements at work. Through this reflective practice, staff can gain valuable insights into their own and others' approaches, which often leads to new perspectives.

How will the programme work?

Following the expression of interest, an information event will be held to introduce the structure. Participants will be matched within their Triads, and then will meet as agreed within the Triad over a period of 3-9 months.

Aims of the Programme

  1. Develop skills through observing and receiving feedback from colleagues.
  2. Increase confidence by practicing skills in a supportive environment and receiving constructive feedback.
  3. Improve problem-solving by understanding different perspectives, enhancing ability to tackle challenges creatively.
  4. Build stronger relationships as part of a more cohesive and supportive work environment.
  5. Enhance career growth by helping participants refine decision-making, empathy, and interpersonal skills crucial for career advancement.
