Mission Statement

The Neurodivergent Staff Network is a neuroaffirming peer-support network for Neurodivergent staff and PhD researchers at University of Galway. It seeks to provide a site of connection, solidarity, respect, and empowerment for its members through fostering links to a wider community of neurodivergent peers.

Aims of the Network

At our first event, members identified three core pillars for the Network: the creation of a social and community hub, the establishment of a centralised point for resources and support, and the development of a collective to help lead on, and advocate for, neuroaffirming practice within the University.

Executive Committee

The Executive Committee is made up of 8-10 members, who normally serve on the Committee for a term of two years, with the possibility of being re-elected for a further term. Executive Commitee members may vacate their position at any time during that period. The Committee strives to maintain a balance between new and continuing members. A member of the Office of the Vice-President for Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion may be an ex-officio member of the Executive Committee. The Executive Committee meets in hybrid form at least twice per semester.

Because confidentiality is a core value of the Network, Executive Committee members may choose whether or not to identify themselves as committee members outside of the Network.

Annual General Meeting

An Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be held each Academic Year, to which all members of the Network are invited, and at which all necessary governance procedures will take place.

An Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) may be called by the Executive Committee as required.

Amendments to the Terms of Reference of the NDSN may be proposed by members. Amendments may only be made at the General Meeting.

The resolution proposing the amendment shall be included in the agenda convening the Meeting and shall require a three-quarters majority of those voting.
