Active* Champions 2025/26

Hi, I’m Gabi! I’m a psychology student interested in nutritional psychiatry, epigenetics and the relationship between trauma and addiction. Outside of academics I take pleasure in going for mindful walks, baking, making art and having jam sessions with my friends. Extreme sports? You’ll find me there! I also like to be involved in the community through volunteering. 

My name is Lucy, and I am a 3rd year Social Sciences student. I am very interested in feminism, LGBTQ+ equality and inclusion, and am very passionate about social justice and consent education. I have been very involved in student and campus life, and I am very proud to have been involved in many student societies, including Bród Soc, Geography Soc and Feminist Soc. I love chatting to people about all things feminism, consent and LGBTQ+ rights, and I can’t wait to begin my time as an Active* Champion. I also love reading and spending time with my dog, Rosie.   

Hello! I'm Désirée, a Master's student in International Contemporary Literatures & Media. Even though my name sounds very French, I am actually from Germany and fell in love with Ireland when I was here on my Erasmus. As a literature student, I have seen enough inequality on paper already, which I cannot change, but I hope that as an Active Champion I can actually do something about that and bring a bit more good into the world. 

I am a fourth-year PhD Education researcher from the United States. My PhD is a feminist case study examining a post-primary teacher education program on the provision of relationships and sexuality education in the program. My research interests and background include feminist theory, gender and sexuality studies, sex education, parent education, teacher education, and community education. Outside of academia and work, I enjoy cooking/baking, watching tv/films, reading, being in nature, and listening to live music! 

Ciara is a third-year Science student at the University of Galway, studying Microbiology and Zoology. She is passionate about inclusion, advocacy and creating supportive spaces where students feel heard and respected. Ciara is actively involved in university life through the Galway University Musical Society, where she serves as Outreach Officer, as well as disability advocacy and youth participation initiatives. As an Active* Champion, she is excited to promote positive conversations around consent and contribute to a safer, more inclusive campus community. 

Bel Bonjou! My name is Aaliyah, I am a final year in English and Creative Writing with Classics and I just greeted you in guadeloupean creole. I’m originally from the french west indies but I’ve completely fallen in love with Galway! Although my studies have no direct link to human rights, I am strongly committed to ideals of equality and justice. I am an endless optimist (the fancy tumblr word for that is pronoïa) and in love with all things artistic. My fingers are perpetually stained with ink, if that’s from covering pages of my notebook in stories or teaching myself brush calligraphy is your bet. I am naturally a voracious reader and no movie is too campy or pretentious for me, I will watch anything as long as you recommend it to me. Dare me to send you a poem, I just might. 

Hello! My name is Anna (she/her), and I’m a final year English and Creative Writing student. I’ve joined Active Consent through my involvement with college societies, including being the incoming Auditor of the Horror Society and a frequent flyer in the Musical Society (GUMS). I hope to promote consent in all societies across campus! In my free time, I’m on a quest to find the best matcha in Galway (Mr. Waffle is the reigning winner), living in the IMC, or collecting sentimental scraps for my junk journal.   

Hi everyone! My name is Zuzanna, and I'm a third year psychology student. I am passionate about people feeling safe to express their true selves- to dress how they want, engage in hobbies without scrutiny, and to feel accepted by those around them- and all of this starts with a positive consent culture! Aside from that, I love to talk all things sustainability and art-related, and in my free time I like to bake, paint, play D&D and read. 

Hi, I'm Anna! I'm a final year student studying English and Law, two subjects that I am deeply passionate about. Outside of my degree my interests include feminism, films, and music. I'm looking forward to making the most out of my time as an Active Champion this year! 

Hi! I'm Noah, a final year  Psychological Studies and Global Media student. I'm passionate about creating  spaces safe from gender-based discrimination and violence on campus,  especially for women and queer people. In my free time, I'm always either sewing or reading in a cosy café/pub.    

Hi! My name is Cian Farrelly and I am a second-year Law, Criminology and Criminal Justice student. As a law student, I am strongly committed towards equality and justice, and I am looking forward to help cater to a safe and open space for everyone on campus. Outside of this, you can usually find me involved with the drama society or with my head in a book in any of the coffee shops around Galway! 

Hi, I’m Sai Keerthana! I’m an MSc in International Management student with a background in Computer Science, product management, and student leadership. I’m passionate about creating inclusive spaces where everyone feels empowered to speak up. In my free time, I enjoy working out, hiking in the mountains, attending live music events with friends, travelling, and learning about Irish and other cultures! I’m so excited to be an Active* Champion this year to promote positive consent education, support my peers, and help build a safe, welcoming campus culture for everyone. Hi, I’m Charlotte and I’m a final year BA English and French student. This will be my second year working as an Active* Champion and I am very excited to get back to it! In my spare time you'll find me reading, planning trips away or laughing (cackling really) with my friends over brunch with a good coffee.
