Medicine Scholarship
Dr. Karen Guinee Scholarship
The Michael Guinee Charitable Foundation is supporting the creation of a new annual scholarship for students studying undergraduate Medicine at University of Galway who may be facing financial or other obstacles that hinder their access to third-level education.
The total value of the scholarship will be €6,250 per year per student for the duration of their undergraduate degree (either 5-year or 6-year).
Scholarship Detail
The Dr. Karen Guinee scholarship will be awarded on an annual basis to support an undergraduate student registered at University of Galway. The scholarship is open to first year students registered on GY501 Medicine for either the 5-year or 6-year degree.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must:
- Be a registered student entering Year 1 of GY501 Undergraduate Medicine at University of Galway on either the 5-year or 6-year degree.
AND
- Provide a personal statement as part of their application form outlining financial or other obstacles (emotional, physical, cultural or social) that hinder their ability to access and/or sustain their third-level education.
Application Process
- The closing date for receipt of applications is Friday, 10th October 2025 TBD
- Applicants will be required to supply a personal statement as part of the application process. The personal statement should be no more than 500 words and may include reference to the following: academic achievements; career aspirations and how your studies will help you to achieve them; any financial or other obstacles—emotional, physical, cultural, or social—that may hinder your ability to access and/or sustain your third-level education.
- Applicants will be required to provide a letter of reference from their high school Principal or Vice Principal.
- Shortlisted applicants will be called for interview and reviewed by a panel. Applicants invited for interview will be required to be available, in-person on Friday 31st October 2025 TBD
