The School of Languages, Literatures and Cultures contains six disciplines, ClassicsFrenchGaeilgeGermanItalian and Spanish, and also houses the subject Celtic Civilisation.

This unusual combination provides an exciting range of possibilities for study, extending from the ancient world to the most contemporary developments in European languages, literatures and cultures.  Additionally, it includes indigenous languages of Britain and Ireland, and initiatives in Chinese.  Singly or in combination, such disciplinary options equip graduates with excellent linguistic and critical thinking skills, giving them a distinct edge in a competitive employment market. Over 40 full time academic staff members teach and research in the School, with a student population of 1700 students.
