Biography

Hazel is the Practice Education Coordinator for the BA Social Care Programme since 2013 and also regularly contributes to teaching on the programme. Prior to this, Hazel practiced as a social worker within the disability sector and as a support worker within the mental health sector, specifically in the areas of intellectual disability and eating disorders respectively. She also has considerable voluntary experience including working with children and families experiencing bereavement and/or childhood life limiting conditions; supporting people with disabilities; carrying out 'Home Sharing' assessments within the disability sector and supporting families to deal with mental illness.

Hazel has a Bachelor in Social Science (2010) from NUI Maynooth and a MA in Social Work (2012) from NUI Galway and is a CORU registered Social Worker. Hazel has also completed certified training courses in Children's First; Keeping Safe; Non-Violent Resistance; Mental Health Commission- The Mental Health Act; Applied Suicide Intervention Skills; Introduction to Motivation Interviewing; Recognising and Responding to Domestic Violence (ADAPT) and 'SAOR'- Brief Interventions for Clinical Practice (Drug Task Force). She has also completed a number of short courses including Recognising and Responding to Child Abuse; Breaking Bad News and Therapeutic Recreation.
