Biography

Lhara is a lecturer and deputy director of  BA Social Care Programme and commenced employment in NUIG in 2012. Previously Lhara worked in the HSE with older people in the community from 2006-2013. Lhara has a BA in Social Care (Hons) (2010) and an MA in Social Work (2012) both from NUIG. Lhara completed the CELT postgraduate certificate in teaching and learning in NUIG in 2015. Lhara is in her final year of her PhD within the Discipline of Health Promotion, entitled: Older People and Homecare in Ireland:  How much do we Care? Lhara sits on the Steering Committee of Comhairle na nOg in Galway, and as a board member for the National Board of Directors for Enable Ireland. Lhara acts as a bullying support contact person for staff in NUIG, sits on the Equaliy, Inclusion, Diversity and Well-being Committee and acts as disability officer within the School of Health Science. Lhara has a keen interest in practice and research relating to health promotion for older people. Lhara has completed short courses in: child protection, suicide prevention, crisis intervention training, responding to sexual abuse, diversity in the workplace, caring for older people, and supporting victims of domestic abuse.
