As Social Worker, I provide practical, confidential, one-to-one support and guidance for students at University of Galway.
The goal of social work intervention is to support students to affect positive change in their lives, while building resilience and exploring coping strategies. When students are facing challenges, I work to empower them to recognise their own strengths and to identify their goals. We also work in partnership to create a plan that is solution focused.
I provide a student led, voluntary service and aim to work in collaboration with you to foster positive behaviours and explore areas of personal growth to promote your wellbeing.
- A Social worker can provide a safe and confidential space to discuss your feelings, concerns and challenges.
- A variety of specialist services can be explored to identify what other supports are available, both within the University and in the wider community.
- Students may seek social work support when they are faced with personal difficulties, complex family issues and where this focused support can help to navigate next steps.
- Students may seek support due to a sudden and unforeseen change to their personal circumstances or, when they may have significant obligations outside of their academic life e.g. caring for a loved one.
- Some students may not have access to typical supports such as family / friends and value this type of service as it can provide an anchor for individuals and space to explore challenges in a supported way.
