How good is your students' academic writing?

Dr Irina Ruppo Malone of the Academic Writing Centre, with MA student in Drama and Theatre, Patricia O'Beirne, who developed the new course as part of EXPLORE

A new online course developed by the Academic Writing Centre aims to improve our students' academic writing skills in a supportive environment. The Academic Writing Through Student Collaboration initiative was created through a staff-student partnership between Dr Irina Ruppo Malone and Patricia O'Beirne as part of EXPLORE. This unique online platform enables students to practice their academic writing in a guided manner, receiving feedback and advice from their peers on how they present their writing.

The online course is available via Blackboard as part of the services of the University's Academic Writing Centre. Since the students review each other's writing, it enables teaching staff in the University to improve their students' writing skills without adding to their own workload.

The course has now been piloted and will be available to interested students and teaching staff from September 2013. If you would like further information on how the course could be incorporated into your modules, please contact Dr Irina Ruppo.
