Who is Access For?
The Access Centre's Access Programme is a one academic year programme that aims to provide students with the opportunity to prepare, personally and academically, for an undergraduate course of full-time study at University of Galway.
Eligibility criteria
You may be eligible to apply for the Access and Foundation Programmes at University of Galway if you:
Are from a group who are traditionally under-represented in higher education, including:
- A socio-economically disadvantaged background
- Applicants with little or no family history of university education
- Students with disabilities, or experiencing long-term illnesses*
- Students from Irish Traveller or Roma communities
- Students with experience of the care system
*Limited places
School leavers
- Aged 22 or under
- Living in the Border, Midlands and Western (BMW) region or County Clare
- HEAR Eligible students
- Preferably have completed the Leaving Certificate, Leaving Certificate Applied, QQI Level 5/6, or equivalent
Mature applicants
- Aged 23 or over
- No formal qualifications required*
*Maths from Leaving Cert is desirable, or a Further Education qualification in Mathematics along with reasonable IT skills for Foundation Science and Engineering.
Places are limited. Selection is based on your circumstances, potential, and commitment to study.
