2025/26 LLM (Law and Digital Innovation) Year in Review

University of Galway School of Law has published the 2025/26 LLM (Law and Digital Innovation) Year in Review, celebrating the programme’s inaugural year and a dynamic programme of practical, interdisciplinary learning, professional engagement and real-world innovation.
The LLM brings together computational law, design thinking, digital transformation, access to justice and advanced legal research. Students were introduced to leading academics, legal technologists, and practitioners working across law firms, NGOs, universities and technology organisations, while also engaging directly with real projects and live questions about AI, digital legal services, legal data and system design.
Among the highlights featured in this year’s review are:
- A visit to the launch of Ulster University’s Centre for Legal Technology, and legal-tech networking opportunities with the European Legal Technology Association at Clio’s Dublin headquarters and ChIPs Ireland at Bird & Bird Ireland.
- Guest seminars from practitioners and researchers including Alex Hamilton of Radiant Law, Sarah Sutherland, Patrick Jones of McCann FitzGerald, Cormac O’Culain of VizLegal, Suzanne Doyle-Guilloud of Validity, Dr Thompson Gyedu Kwarkye and Jim Fruchterman of Tech Matters.
- Practical, project-based work through the Design Thinking for Lawyers studio, where student teams partnered with Disabled Women Ireland and Mercy Law Resource Centre to develop working prototypes supporting accessibility and housing-law client intake.
- Development of a structured placement pathway for students, including a placement secured with McCann FitzGerald.
The School extends its thanks to the students, colleagues and external partners who helped make the first year of the LLM in Law and Digital Innovation such a rich and rewarding experience, and looks forward to welcoming a new cohort in September 2026.
