Law Reform Commission and IPRT researchers on bridging disciplinary divides to support criminal justice reform

On Monday 19 October, students on the LLM in Criminology, Criminal Justice and Human Rights received a masterclass on how to bridge disciplinary divides in order to provide a sound evidence base for criminal justice reform from leading national researchers.
Marianne Joyce, Senior Legal Researcher at the Law Reform Commission shared insights on the scoping, drafting and impact of the recent Compensating Victims of Crime Report.

Martha Lewis, Policy and Research Coordinator at the Irish Penal Reform Trust shared insights into how cirminology and human rights inform advocacy and campaigns focused on penal reform nationally, using pepper spray in prisons as a concrete example of a recent project.

Students also benefitted from hearing about methods, consultations to support reform-oriented projects, stakeholder engagement and careers advice.
