CPR members and LLM in Criminology, Criminal Justice and Human Rights students attend launch of IPRT report

Members of the Crime, Punishment and Rights Research Cluster and students from the LLM in Criminology, Criminal Justice and Human Rights attended the launch of Irish Penal Reform Trust report, Progress on the Penal System 2025 on 1 October 2026.
Professor Gautam Gulati (Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist) gave the keynote speech, interrogating the right to life impact of mental healthcare in Irish prisons, complementing the PIPs report’s spotlight this year.

The panel discussion, led by Mark Kelly (Chief Inspector of Prisons), Fíona Ní Chinnéide (Deputy Director, Probation Service), Dr Brenda Wright (Clinical Director, National Forensic Mental Health Service), Donna Creaven (Director of Corporate Services, IPS), was chaired by Ashling Golden.
Students on the LLM in Criminology, Criminal Justice and Human Rights also benefited from an interaction dialogue with members of the OPCAT and CPRD teams of the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission on rights advocacy, research and careers.
