New report & webinar recording: Governing the European Green Deal Through Local Social Experiments

Governing the European Green Deal Through Local Social Experiments

A new report from SHARED GREEN DEAL (Horizon 2020), co-authored by Emily K Gray and Professor Frances Fahy from the University of Galway, explores how local communities across Europe helped put the European Green Deal into action through 24 social experiments across six key policy areas: Clean Energy, Circular Economy, Efficient Renovations, Sustainable Mobility, Sustainable Food, and Biodiversity.
By analysing how these experiments operated on the ground, the report shows how social experimentation can become a practical tool for governing the European Green Deal at the local level. The findings reveal that when local actors link experimentation to ongoing governance processes, build strong relationships, and adapt to challenges, they can drive meaningful and lasting change.
The report was launched with a webinar, hosted by Emily K Gray and featuring Dr Jeanne Moore of Ireland's National Economic and Social Council as a guest speaker.
This report is part of a series of analyses on the 24 SHARED GREEN DEAL social experiments, which cover topics such as gender, inclusion and justice, societal challenges, and geographic differences. The reports, accompanied by coffee talk webinars, are being released throughout the month of October.
