Key Governance Structures and Decision-Making in the University

Our Organisational Chart sets out the key governance structures of the University and how they relate to each other. In this section of the Governance Hub, you will find additional information on how those structures work and how decisions are made by the Governing Authority, Údarás na hOllscoile , Academic Council and the University Management Team.

Students participate at all levels within our governance structures to ensure the student voice is heard on important organisational and academic matters directly affecting their interests and to contribute to the strategic direction of the University.

The right of students to sit on the University Governing Authority is enshrined in the relevant national legislation. Currently, the Students’ Union President and two elected officers of the Students’ Union are members of Údarás na hOllscoile and its Sub-Committees. Students also sit on our Academic Council as elected representatives of their Colleges. In addition, student representatives shape the development of key University policies and strategies through their active participation in Working Groups, Committees and consultation processes.
