The right to protest

Protest is a foundational right in any democratic order. It protects the power of the population to contest the decisions of their state. As part of a cooperation between the Irish Centre for Human Rights and the Irish Council for Civil Liberties to develop a cohort of legal observers in Ireland, this project explores the international human right to protest. We bring together the various human rights norms around the exercise of protest, civil disobedience and public order policing. This will be of use to activists, scholars and civil society groups interested in the right to protest.
