Eden Matiyas Mulugeta
Eden Matiyas Mulugeta is a seasoned practitioner in peacebuilding and conflict transformation, specialising in the Horn of Africa. With over eight years of practical experience, she has developed expertise in transitional justice, programme design and implementation, policy engagement, research, and analysis. Eden holds the Master of Advanced Studies (MAS) in Transitional Justice, Human Rights and the Rule of Law from the Geneva Academy of International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights, an M.A. in Global Studies with special emphasis on Peace and Security in Africa from Addis Ababa and Leipzig Universities, and a Bachelor of Law (LLB) from Jimma University.
Currently, Eden Matiyas is a Hardiman Research PhD Scholar at the Irish Centre for Human Rights, under the supervision of Dr. Anita Ferrara. Her research examines the role and impact of digital memorials in preserving collective memory and promoting transitional justice and peacebuilding in Ethiopia and Uganda. The study seeks to analyse how digital platforms, including social media, online archives, and storytelling initiatives, document survivors’ experiences, transmit collective memory across generations, contribute to transitional justice and peacebuilding, and complement or challenge physical memorials.
