Welcome to Donegal Medical Academy
Welcome to the Donegal Medical Academy. You are very privileged to be part of the team here at Letterkenny University Hospital. This program ensures that you are closely allied to the patients’ care and experiences, on their clinical journey through our hospital. This early patient contact is intended to promote values of professionalism. In particular, it affords a positive learning environment for development of the core value of empathy. This is essential in ensuring you reach your full potential on your future journey as a medical doctor. This program also ensures that each student is a fully integrated member of the clinical team. By following a patient with a particular illness over their stay in hospital and in out-patients, you will get a good grasp of the care of that illness and the patient contact will often imbed these details in your mind. It is a great way of learning. This is an essential component for the satisfactory completion of your training.
