Aengus Parsons

Aengus Parsons is Vice-President for Research & Innovation (Acting) at the University of Galway. Aengus joined the University in 2016 as Director of Research and for 10 years led the development of the Research Office, which plays a pivotal role in enabling our research community to undertake world-class, impactful research.  In this role he was responsible for guiding the Research Office team to work in close partnership with our researchers to secure funding, offer strategic guidance, and support projects throughout the research lifecycle.  He works in close partnership with national and international stakeholders, including funding agencies, government bodies, universities, and networks to strengthen our research mission.

Prior to joining the University, Aengus' career in the marine sector - with research, industry and consultancy experience - included senior roles in Ireland's Marine Institute; as Director of Marine Environment & Food Safety Services and Programme Manager for Research Funding, where he contributed to the shaping of national marine research priorities and funding programmes.
