Jesús López completed his degree as a Biological Technical Assistant in Hilden (Germany) before moving to Ireland. Once in Galway, he joined the Plant Developmental Epigenetics Laboratory at NUI Galway where his research focused on understanding the mechanisms of seed priming and screening Arabidopsis thaliana mutants. In May 2019, he joined the Molecular Parasitology Laboratory (MPL) where his research involves the development of diagnostics for livestock infections, and the discovery and testing of vaccines against fasciolosis in collaboration with Teagasc, Athenry, Galway. Since late 2024 he has been involved in stablishing new collaborations with research groups in the Andean Altiplano to carry out surveillance studies to determine the distribution and prevalence of fasciolosis in that region of Latin America.
