Head of School Message
Welcome to the School of Biological & Chemical Sciences.
I would like to warmly welcome you to the School of Biological & Chemical Sciences.
The School was established in 2022 as part of the restructuring process within the College of Science and Engineering. Our vision is to deliver cutting edge research and academic programmes in modern day biological and chemical sciences. In pursuit of environmental and social sustainability, the activities within the school are research-led and aligned within two key thematic areas: Sustainable World and Health & Discovery.
Our curriculum embeds some key principles of the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations which feature innovative teaching methods, and draw on our wide range of strengths from across traditional disciplines such as biochemistry, chemistry, or microbiology to the future interdisciplinary subjects of a green and blue bioeconomy or the medtech sector.
We offer a range of taught and research-led programmes at Undergraduate and Postgraduate (MSc and PhD) levels. All programmes are designed and delivered by research-active academic staff, and thus incorporate course content inspired by current research trends, including public policy, and industry partnership, whilst emphasising the importance of science communication.
I hope each of you will take some time to virtually explore our school and we look forward to welcoming our students on campus this September.
Best wishes for the academic year.
