Building Engagement from Day One: Fostering Belonging for every First-Year Student

Purpose of this Project?
A Student Affairs Ireland seed-funded national collaboration to create a practical guide for higher education staff supporting first-year undergraduate students. The project brought together colleagues across 11 Irish higher education institutions to share practice, evidence, challenges and expertise.

Why it Matters
The first year is a critical transition point where students develop belonging, confidence and academic identity. Early experiences can shape engagement, wellbeing, progression and long-term success.
