Overview of student supports and Active* Consent 

Your introduction to University of Galway, with essential information about how we'll support your success as you start your university journey. You will also receive information on the Digital Toolkit, an overview of student supports, and Active* Consent.

What will I know at the end of this session? 

You will leave this session knowing you are welcomed and supported by University of Galway, with a deepened understanding of Active* Consent and confidence in reaching out for help should you need it during your time here.

Campus Showcase
Check out the Campus Showcase - wander the stands, meet different University services, student societies, University sports clubs and more. You may even gather a few freebies.

New Faces, New Connections
Looking to meet other first year students? Join this relaxed, interactive session to chat, get to know new people, and start building your university community. Whether you already know someone or you're arriving on your own, this is a welcoming space to make connections and settle into university life.
Workshop start times: 1:00pm and 2:00pm
Where: HBB G001, Human Biology Building (Classroom to the left of main entrance)

The Practical Bits
From tips on how to get on with your housemates, how to log onto the Wi-Fi or how to make a timetable, in The Practical Bits, first years get the chance to chat with current students, who are excited to impart knowledge, practical advice or answer any and all silly questions.

Fáilte Film Fleadh
Looking for a break from the buzz of Campus Welcome? Why not grab some popcorn and settle into a screening of our very own Students' Union documentary.
Where: HBB G019, Large Lecture Theatre, Human Biology Building (to the right of main entrance)

Outdoor Fair
Don't forget to grab a bite to eat! Enjoy live music and good food from the food trucks in the Alumni Plaza (or any of our campus cafés)

Shaping What Success Means for You

Want to know how to make the most of your university experience?
Come along to this session and explore what success really means – not only getting good grades, but also building confidence, making friends, trying new things and growing as a person.

What will I gain from attending Shaping What Success Means For You?
With stories and advice shared from our special guest sports personalities, your Student Success Coach, your Students' Union VP Education and your Student Support Officer. You will gain practical tips for handling challenges, bouncing back when things don’t go to plan and knowing when and how to ask for support. No one has it all figured out – this session will help you find your own path to success.

YourSpace 101: Hosted by the Societies, Sports Clubs and Student Volunteering 

Learn about student life beyond the classroom in this interactive session! Find out all about YourSpace - your extracurricular portal. Make connections and get the inside scoop on how to make the most of your time in university. 

When:  from 3.30 - 4.30pm

What can I expect at YourSpace101? 

You’ll discover the wide range of societies, sport clubs and volunteering opportunities open to you. You may feel inspired to get involved or start something new and connect with others who share similar interests.  

Freshers' BBQ

Join the Freshers' BBQ and get to know your fellow first years! Grab a free burger, enjoy the music and take part in quizzes and games.

When: 5:00pm - 7:00pm
Where: Áras na Mac Léinn and Sult

What can I expect at Freshers’ BBQ? 

An opportunity to meet and connect with fellow first years in a fun and friendly setting, eat good food and be in with a chance to win some prizes!  

Fáilte After Dark 

Join the Big Fáilte Party for a packed lineup of fun - with The Big Quiz, Music, Dance-off, Societies Talent Show, Games Room, Craft Corner and Movie Screening, it’s a night not to be missed! 

When: 7:00pm - 11:00pm
