Postdoctoral Researcher – BIOFABRICATE Project
The Timber Engineering Research Group (TERG) at the University of Galway is seeking a motivated Postdoctoral Researcher to join the BIOFABRICATE project. Funded by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, the project brings together academic and industry partners across Ireland to advance bio-based innovation from Irish forest resources.
The successful candidate will contribute to research on engineered timber and advanced wood products, bio-based adhesives and coatings, structural performance, lifecycle assessment, and sustainable construction solutions using Irish-grown timber.

- Salary range: €47,273–€60,250 per annum

PhD Scholarship in Civil Engineering – BIOFABRICATE Project
The Timber Engineering Research Group (TERG) at the University of Galway invites applications for a funded PhD position in Civil Engineering under the supervision of Dr Patrick J. McGetrick in the School of Engineering.
This PhD position is part of the BIOFABRICATE project, funded by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine. The research will focus on the structural design, fabrication, and large-scale experimental performance validation of engineered wood products using native Irish hardwoods and biobased materials.
- Location: University of Galway
- Scholarship duration: Maximum of 4 years, 2026–2030
- Funding: Tax-free stipend of €25,000 per annum, EU tuition fees, and travel, consumables and materials budget
