Spectral Flow Cytometry Event 16th of April 2026

The Thermo Fisher Scientific Bigfoot Fluorescent Activated Cell Sorter has recently been installed in the Flow Cytometry Core Facility, enhancing its capabilities for advanced cell sorting. 

On Thursday, 16 April, the facility welcomed the Thermo Fisher Scientific team for a Spectral Flow Cytometry Event. Dr. Shirley Hanley opened the session with an overview of the TSD Flow Cytometry Core. This was followed by presentations from the Thermo Fisher Scientific team, who shared insights on best practices in flow cytometry, discussed reagents and support resources, and introduced the capabilities of the Bigfoot Cell Sorter.

University of Galway launched its new Medical Device Prototype Hub, supported by medical device company Medtronic

On Wednesday 4th of February 2026, University of Galway launched its new Medical Device Prototype Hub, supported by medical device company Medtronic.

The development of the facility is part of the five-year €5million signature innovation partnership between Medtronic and the University, announced in 2023, which focuses on three pillars: developing the MedTech ecosystem, STEM engagement and research.

The Hub is part of University of Galway’s Institute for Health Discovery and Innovation, established in 2024 through the signature partnership. Located within the University’s Technology Services Directorate, the Hub provides shared research infrastructure and technical expertise supporting both the Institute for Health Discovery and Innovation and the Institute for Clinical Trials.

The development is part of an integrated ecosystem at University of Galway which enables sustained, research-led development further positioning Galway as the centre of Ireland’s global MedTech hub and the University as integral to research for the public good on the world stage.
