Equality, Diversity and Inclusion

The College of Arts, Social Sciences and Celtic Studies (CASSCS) at University of Galway is committed to the promotion of equality of opportunity and to creating and sustaining an environment that values and celebrates the diversity of our staff and student body. The principle of equality of opportunity is enshrined in the core values of the institution as articulated in the University’s strategic plan 2020, in legislation, and in the Public Sector Duty (Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission Act 2014).

In the CASSCS we recognize that diversity encompasses a wide range of characteristics, including but not limited to race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, age, disability, and socio-economic background. By promoting an inclusive environment, we aim to break down barriers, encourage open dialogue, and celebrate the unique perspectives that each individual brings to our College.

Race Equality

University of Galway is committed to a zero-tolerance approach to racism and advancing race equality across the University.

The Race Equality Framework and Action Plan 2023–2027 drives cultural and organisational change to ensure that white settled Irish and minority ethnic staff and students can work and study together in an environment that values diverse perspectives, enhancing creativity, teaching, research, and the overall experience of our community.
